Winterberry Fair co-chairs, Lorilee Reuillard, Betty
Nims and Suzy Shaub plan to tap into the many treasures of the People’s
United Methodist Church of Union for its 16th annual holiday sale. At
a recent meeting, the consensus was, “There is a lot of talent in the
church and we want to showcase those abilities that many folks have
to share. We have those who knit, others who sew and some who do intricate
crafts. In particular, many of our members have wonderful recipes for
delicious candies and baked goods. We want to be sure to preserve those
assets and pass them along to those interested in learning.”
During upcoming workshops, several specialty items
will be prepared for the church’s Winterberry Fair on Saturday, November
1. Millie Goff will show workers the fine points of baking Finnish braided
bread as they produce the delectable loaves. Harriet Carroll will share
her recipe and assist in making her heavenly divinity fudge for the
sale. Peggy Hawes will coach members on the art of hand dipped candies
in several great flavors. Van Laliberte will work with a group to create
her fantastic baklava. Wanda Garland will bake her superb cookies and
breads. Lois Jensen will assemble a tasty brunch menu for the café at
the holiday fair.
The call has also gone out for jams, jellies, pickles,
relishes, pies, breads, cookies and cakes, as well as handmade crafts
of many kinds. Keeping the cost of heat sources in mind, “draft dodgers”
will be made for the sale. The men of the church have expressed interest
in both the cooking projects and making craft items. Stan Silva’s has
created a beautiful new design for the Winterberry Fair poster; he also
has fashioned lovely brass and copper auto necklaces.
The Fair committee urges area residents to mark the
date on their calendars. The lower floor of the church will be transformed
into a festive setting and will be ready for shoppers from 8 AM to 1
PM on Saturday, November 1. Be sure to sign up for the free door prize,
a complete Thanksgiving dinner from the Common Market. The People’s
United Methodist Church is located on Depot Street, just off the Common
in Union. For more information or to speak with the new minister, Pastor
